Fellowship Hour is hosted by Philoptochos and GOYA in honor of Godparents.

Saturday of the Souls…During the Triodion period we are called upon to remember our loved ones who have been called by the Lord to eternity. Three Saturdays are commemorated for the Departed. As we prepare for Pascha and the death and resurrection of Christ, you can help teach your children about ways we remember our family members who have departed. A wonderful lesson and recipe on koliva (boiled wheat) can be found in one of the many Greek Cookbooks available to us. Liturgy begins at 9:00 a.m. Names should be submitted prior to the Service.

Big Trees and Little Trees…” Though one might prevail against another, two will
withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12). We often hear that we can worship in private, in the woods, or on the mountaintop and that the believer
need not belong to any church community.  But persons who say they can stand alone remind us of what happened when a neighbor decided to log all the trees of the property. By law this neighbor had to leave the trees less than 12 inches in diameter for future growth. Ufortunately, he discovered after logging the larger trees that each time a strong wind blew, the young trees with their shallow roots on the perimeter of his property were blown over and
destroyed. The young trees could not withstand strong winds without the shelter provided by the old trees.

So it is for believers. We need the protection and nurturing environment of a community where the love of Christ and sacrificial Christian living are regularly demonstrated. All of us need the encouragement and shared strength of other Orthodox Christians to help us stand in the world.

Godparents Sunday…has been rescheduled for Sunday May 13, 2012. The interest for the
observance of Godparents Day is high for most, but the conflict of numerous observations caused the organizing committee to delay its observance later in the year. Hopefully this change in the schedule has not inconvenienced you and we ask you to mark the new date on your calendar to MAY 13.

Our Annual Macaronatha Luncheon…will be on Sunday, February 26th. Lunch is complimentary and good will donations will be accepted to benefit the Missions Program. For reservations call Jim Kapolas at 630-450-3442 or email at j.kapolas@comcast.net or Dennis Poulos at 630-802-7600.

Jr. GOYA…Please join us as we support the New Moms charity by making blankets for their newborn children. Fr. Nicholas will be having a short discussion during the event. We
will make the blankets on Monday, February 20th, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please bring $15 for each blanket. Donuts, bagels and juice & milk will be served.

TOTS…is meeting this Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. “Lenten Preparation and Lenten TOT
activities” will be our themes for the day. Bring your toddlers to learn, pray and participate in fun hands on activities focusing on the lesson of the day.
