The Handmaidens—Epistle Readers (Girls 9th-12th Grade)
In our life of worship, the term Liturgy means “the work of the people,” and
one significant role is that of the Epistle Reader during the Divine Liturgy. The
Epistle passages are taken from the New Testament and the daily reading
according to the Ecclesiastical Calendar is read during the Divine Liturgy just
before the Holy Gospel. An Epistle Reader is one who learns to serve the Lord
with a deep reverence for His words and the delivery of those words to the
Body of Christ. The Handmaidens Epistle Readers are open to high school girls
9th-12th grade. There may be additional opportunities for reading during Holy
Week.
